What is wrong with this picture?

Last winter I took a Thursday night watercolor class after work. One evening the class had finished a 6-week project, so our instructor suggested we all relax and do a fun one niter. She told us to pull out our masking tape and design some trees on our cold press paper. We made our personal color choice for the background, blow dried our work, removed the tape, and finished by painting in the birch trees.

It didn't take very long, and we all had a fun time. The most entertainment arrived, however, when the quickies were placed on the white board for all to scrutinize and share. Someone noticed that there was something VERY wrong with my picture. I had hoped it would be overlooked. Never! A group of aspiring artists don't miss a lick!

We all laughed; I was embarassed. But as you can see I never threw the picture away.

Several of you have asked me to display one of my paintings. I hope you enjoy looking for the mystery. I apologize that my scanner is not large enough to photo the entire water color.

I am my worst critic. I also know that I am a beginner water color artist and need to be nicer to myself. Somedays I love to paint and some days I hate to paint. Heck! Somedays I just don't want to get out of bed.

Today my fear is that all of you will find all the other mistakes, too. I guess I'll take it like a man. (A man would say, I meant it to look like that.)

I guess I can't play - because I think I already know the answer having seen the picture before. You should post the picture of Benji and the geese or of Haystack Rock - or your fishy picture....

That's a really nice picture (I mean really nice). I am loathe to pic fault with it, but you did challenge me!

It took some time to spot but it looks to me to be an issue of perspective, there is a branch that is in front but should be behind.

close... willowtree... that is an interesting "perspective'

truth is the branch doesn't go anywhere at all

It just disappears

Okay, since I am not an art critic, but I enjoy beauty, I could not find out what is wrong with the picture. I think it is simply beautiful.:)

Looks great to me. Wish I could paint a mistake like that.

Geez, I don't know. I think it's really nice. All I can think is that one branch kind of runs into the other tree, like it was supposed to continue in front? I would like to paint this well, that's all I know;)

Thanks for stopping by my waterskiing kids post;) Be sure to come by and vote on the best post tomorrow!

Thanks for visiting my Blog. The painting is gorgeous and since I am not artistic at all I would never try to pick apart this lovely work of art. I am hoping that will change this school year as the kids and I endeaver on a new art journey. As for the reason I listed Deuteronomy as a favorite book of the Bible it is because every time I have a hard day with the kids in school, or over the summer if I start to what it would be like if the kids went to "all-day" school the Lord leads me right back to Deut 6:5-8. SInce the Lord has shown this to me He has also revealed several other wonderful things in this special book.

Love it! But does it involve the shadows? Maybe the trees should be darker of the light is behind them and the shadow in front? Dunno but it sure is pretty!

Wanted you to come home to a HAPPY comment today!!! You made mention of checking me out every morning on I think Julie's blog and YOU MADE MY DAY! I'm ALWAYS uplifted by your comments...and THANKS for sharing one of your watercolors...mistake, no mistake, who the heck cares? That would make a "real" artist's work all the more valuable, right? ;)

Happy Monday, chickadee!

Oh, yeah, wanted to tell you that hummingbirds were swarming our feeder yesterday--four of them! Fighting for position, any thoughts on that?

Here for C&C Monday. I think its a wonderful picture. Not sure what is wrong with it.
Okay, I guess I kind of sort of cheated. I saw where you had commented on Willowtree's post and just had to see the picture and the branch you were talking about.

Nicely done by the way! I wish I was that artistic. My DH is though but he won't pick up a brush - not even for me.
