The Interview

If you've been reading blogs recently you will notice that the Interview Meme is making the rounds again. I've never played. So I was happy to respond to the five questions presented to me by Angela, someone who I've actually met outside the blogosphere. You can read about her at Create 4 Famil y, where she answered her own **five questions last week. **Asked by my daughter Karmyn. I was ready: (1)When you wake up on a cold snowy day, what is your first thought? “I’m so glad that this bed is so snuggly and warm. I think I’ll stay here for awhile.” …and I do. (2)Where did you and your husband meet? In the middle. We‘ve been meeting in the middle for almost 33 years. Sometimes he has to cross over to make up some of the space that I’m not capable of traversing. We have those days in relationships. I hope I’ve done the same thing for him a few times, too. No matter what – he’s the one I want there, waiting for me. (3)If you could have any pet it would be? …one of tho...

Photo Meme - 6th of 6th of 6th

Image
I've been tagged. It's been some time since I've responded to one. Reasons I've not played are many, such as: most of them I've already done, and some of them I've done twice, I'm lazy, I'm busy, or I forget. That last one is a problem. I always forget. This time I've been tagged by my daughter. So I'm just going to "git 'er done." HERE ARE THE RULES: 1.Go to your Picture Folder on your computer or wherever you store your pictures. 2.Go to the 6th Folder, then pick the 6th picture in that folder. 3.Post that picture on your blog and the story that g oes along with the picture. 4.Tag 6 other peoples that you know or don’t know to do the same thing and leave a comment on their blog or an e-mail letting them know you chose them. Karmyn is right about me, in that I have files and files of photos on my computer. In fact, I have files within files. I needed to click on my personal pictures file, and then click on the sixth file (wh...

Are there more out there?

Sometimes I forget when people tag me with MeMes. Sometimes I forget to put the half-n-half back in the fridge before I leave for work. Eventually I spit out both. Like today. (Yes, it was sour.) Back in time Burnett's Urban Etiquette tagged me to write my memoirs in six words or les s . I've waited so long to respond that James has moved away... to a blog that is a more "formal" part of the newspaper. He writes for The Miami Herald. (He's a great writer, too!) So -- my life story in six words. "I think I can do it." Not really. That was my response when he handed me this assignment. Here is the real one: "I want to do it over." Everything. This stems from a lifelong dissatisfaction with all my first attempts. Possibly originating with my order of birth. As the youngest of eight, I always knew someone older and wiser would respond to my pleas for help or advice. My older siblings came along and cleaned up my messes or took ...

Message in a Bottle

Image
Brand Spankin' New Blogger, Rose, of Rose's Garden tagged me for this MeMe that I've seen circulating. I think someone else may have tagged me, too. (Remind me if it was you so I can link to you here. Sorry, I'm leaking memories.) Here are the Rules: You are about to send a virtual Message In a Bottle across the Blog Ocean. Leave a message in the sand or on the bottle. Write anything you wish. Be a pirate or a poet. Serious or silly. Anonymous or not. What message would you like to send out to the universe? Here it is: There were lots of other rules, too. But, aren't rules made to be broken? Rose has them at her place so please visit her blog -- say hello and welcome her to the sphere - and check out how the meme truly works. Today I helped the hubby fix a section of our backyard fence that was hanging on splinters. The little neighbor boy, Kadon, thought having a big hole in the fence was the best thing since sliced bread. (Not that he knew there was an...

B.S. (A Meme)

Several weeks ago Tiggerlane tagged me with the education meme. The rules : Devise a list of 5-10 courses you would take to fix your life. It's more fun to be in classes with friends, so include one class from the person who tagged you that you'd also like to take. Tag five. (1)The amount of time that has passed since I was given this assignment proves that I already have a degree in procrastination. However, a refresher course in time management might be helpful. I would probably call it Personal Time Space Continuum 365 . (yeah, my own little universe) This class would provide an overview of the students one year journey around the sun. I just don't know if I can fit it in my schedule. (2) Especially at this time of year, Making Payday Last Forever $101 is highly recommended. We've all heard the saying "So much month left at the end of the money ," or " So long between Paydays, so short between Bills." Well, this class would apply th...

Awards and Me-Me's part 5

Kathleen Marie -The Open Window tagged me with the Marriage Meme. This one comes with a list of required questions. The First is: Where did you meet your spouse? We were both invited to sing at a friends wedding. As we were married to other people at the time, we didn't pay much attention to each other. However, we met again after our divorces. He was the firefighter/paramedic that answered a call to my house. Shortly after that, our shared friend set us up on a blind date. What was the first thing you said to your spouse? When we met??? I don't remember really saying anything. We were alone on the balcony at the wedding rehearsal of our shared friend, and we may have discussed where we would stand. Where was the first kiss? first date? Possibly on my front porch. There was a train that rumbled through about 11 pm each night, and I remember the engineer Tooting his Whistle at us. I probably kissed him first - at least that would be his claim. Our first date was my...

Awards and Me-Me's part 4

Time With Shelby tagged me eons ago (66 days to be exact) with the meme requesting eight random things about me. I've done several of these in the past, including one by my alter ego ME2. You may want to click on my Label for Tags on the right side bar to hear from her. In the meantime I'm sure I can come up with eight more random things that I might not have mentioned previously. Belly Roll please: 1) I hide behind doors in the darkness and jump out and scare the hubby. 2) I have caller ID - and I don't answer the phone if I don't recognize the caller. 3) I don't like potato chips, but I love potatoes. Figure that one out. 4) My little toe is ugly. 5) I have a metal rod in my left leg, and four screws. 6) My most recent resolution is to remove all labels from fresh fruit. 7) When I was younger I could hum a b-flat upon request. (No pitch pipe) 8) I can count to 99 on my fingers. Those were about as random as I could get. Hope to see your list soon. ...

Awards and Me-Me's part 3

Amy of A Family Story tagged me with The Middle Name Meme. She hates her middle name. So you really should click on that link to find out why. The rules: "You must list one fact that is somehow relevant to your life for each letter of your middle name. If you don’t have a middle name, use the middle name you would have liked to have had. When you are tagged you need to write your own blog-post containing your own middle name game facts. At the end of your blog-post, you need to choose one person for each letter of your middle name to tag. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog." I'm so darn lucky I have a short middle name. R: Reactive (when I should be proactive) A: Altruistic (I should take better care of myself) E: Effervescent (I drank too much Alka Seltzer for my heart burn) Now who to tag? R: READERS A: ALL OF YOU E: EVERBODY ELSE

Moaning Myrtle

That lovely musician in Arkansas (Quarter Notes) tripped me, sat on me, forced cod-liver oil down my throat, and then threatened to make me guess her weight if I didn't accept her meme tag. The only redeeming factor was that she gave me a license to rant. (As in that old Arkansas story about Goldilocks and the three bears: "She rant all the way home." ) Speaking of Arkansas - My sister moved to Hot Springs while her children were small. Seven-year old Matthew walked down the lane while the movers were unloading the truck. He came upon an old gentleman repairing a barbed-wire fence and proceeded to stand quietly and watch him. The fellow straightened up for a moment and wiped his brow with an old blue hanky. He looked at his nosy little new neighbor and decided to make conversation. "Hey son, what ya reckon?" Poor little Matt. He was quite stunned by this question. "Mister," was his shaky voiced reply, "I just got here, I haven't been wr...

A Meme of past posts

Shelly Dupree (but that's not who she really be) suggested I do the archive Meme. I like the idea of revisiting my favorite posts. The rules are simple. Choose something from your archives that meets the following criteria. (Great for new readers and new blogging pals!) * Link 1 must be about family - My Favorites is about my 7 grandchildren. At the time I wrote this we had number 8 well on the way. When we lost him, in my sorrow I returned to this post and edited him out. Now I regret doing that. But SURPRISE! Number 9 is on the way and will fill our hearts with more wonder and delight. Read and discover why he/she will soon be my favorite. * Link 2 must be about friends - I invite you to read the haunting story of The Piper . It weaves life and death into an afternoon of a pipers echoing tune. * Link 3 must be about myself - After reading The Runaway , you'll realize I was an annoying child. * Link 4 must be about something you love. My husband, of course! So i...

Thank you Mama Drama Min

Image
Mindy Sterba, of the infamous Mama Drama , christened me (and four others) as Rockin' Girl Bloggers. She must have seen my last summer post, I ROCK . I worked a second job sifting the drain system rocks out of our torn up back yard. It is always a treat to see what Min has compiled for her latest write up. Her style is inexplicable - Willowtree says I should use the word indefinable, and he is correct. I wrote this at midnight so my choice of words is not inexplicable – so I invite you to visit the Houston Chronicle’s Mama Drama team and check out the fun for yourself. Tell them I sent you. As a recipient of this prestigious, esteemed, valued, and highly desired award, I am obligated to pay it forward to five other deserving rockers. How do I choose just five out of the 128 blogs I follow? They are all special and unique. Some of them are even rockin’guys. Nevertheless, choose I must! (Drum Roll Please) Dreaming What Ifs and F...

Thinking Blogger (Part 2) by ME2

Image
Two more tags for The Thinking Blogger. My funny and beautiful Vicki at Living Life & Catching Light and a new soul mate, Chris B at Ms. Cellania . Thanks YOU2. In your honor I have relinquished control of my blog today to ME2, the skinny lady who lives inside me. She has promised to keep it nice. Thanks for patronizing her. signed, Pamela * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Thank you , Pamela, my alter ego, for allowing me this opportunity to write a post without your constant intrusion. My mission, which I chose to accept, was to choose the five bloggers who make me think. I am worried a little about that provision to "self-destruct" in five seconds. HA! Nevertheless, I will play along with this MEME and pretend for a minute that some bloggers out there really do raise my eyebrows. That's one of the odd things about growing older, how much more difficult it is to raise them. I guess I could start plucking them closer to my f...

Thinking Blogger (Part 1)

Image
I am thinking. I have been thinking for quite a while now about the Meme with which Jenny @ Mama Drama tagged me. The Thinking Blogger Award. Every morning I was thinking , “I will do that Meme today.” Every day I have not. Therefore, I only have myself to blame for the five additional tags. Everyone knows the r ules. I’m thinking about breaking them. Before I tag new thinkers , I’m going to tell you what I'm thinking about Jenny and the other five tag you're iters . I read them every day. If a blog was a ball of yarn, I think Jenny of Mama Drama would be a cat. If a blog was box of chocolates, Jenny would be the one you bit into first. 'Nuff said? If I could choose another sister, I think it would be Susie at Susie’s Space. I’ve never met a more positive person. PS. She’ll be the OLDER sister. I dream of calling Kailani so I can identify the sound of her voice. Every day I think I hear the smile in her wor...

MeMeMeMeMe...... again

Kathleen Marie at Stranded in the Mountains tagged me with a short meme. I almost didn’t get to it because I stopped to drool over her recipe for Berry French Toast. When do bloggers find time to cook? (See my recipe for peanut butter and raisin sandwiches.) Anyway – getting my mind out of the calorie gutter…and back to the five questions. They are very deep, but as usual, I stayed in the shallow end of the pool. And please - any of you, feel free to post on your blog and invite me over for the read. ** ** ** ** ** ** As a child, what did you always say you wanted to be when you grew up? I knew I was going to be a Princess. I prepared to sleep on twenty mattresses and complain about the cherry pit beneath them. The wicked Queen Mother would have to admit that I was royal and I would marry the Prince. Lately, I have been thinking about that Princess Job again. If you had to choose one thing that you've always dreamed of d...

Six Weird/Odd Things plus a Squirrel Nut Cracker.

Image
Swampwitch tagged me with a Meme ( read hers) that is very similar to one I posted in October. At that time the request was five weird things. The new one circulating the sphere is now demanding that we admit to six. In truth, it would be quicker to name all six things about me that aren't weird. For the first five I'm going to send you back to my October 12 post where you will find yourself in awe of my irregularities. That was probably a poor choice of words. So, drum roll please! Here comes number 6. I can't tolerate having a suitcase on my bed. Do not put a suitcase on any of my chairs, either. A suitcase either belongs on a stand (butler?) or the floor. Think about all those filthy airplane bellies. I've watched through the wee windows of a jet and viewed them being thrown on the ground, on top of questionable shipping boxes, and exposed to whatever chemicals that get blown all over the tarmac from jet exhaust and baggage trams. I don't want to...

Is It Lawful to Remove the TAG?

It was tag week for me. As much as I love writing "junk," I find writing about me very difficult. Nevertheless, I am going to try to do this without ME2's help at this conjuncture. (ME2: psssst. She doesn't even know what conjuncture means. Sigh.) Thanks to Kelly for giving me the opportunity to share five things few people know about me. visit her at Pass The Torch . Her blog has everything put together exactly how it should be. She's made a decision to stay home this year and homeschool her two kids, D and C. (You'll find C jumping into the lake from her Banner.) I'm wishing they were my grand kids, they are so cute, and smart,...and lucky to have Kelly, not only as their teacher, but also as their mom. Now, back to the subject at hand. Here are the five things you don't know about me. 1. My weight 2. My innermost thoughts 3. My bra cup 4. My foot deodorant 5. The side of the bed on which I sleep Thus, they remain the five things you don't ...

Bibbity Bobbity Boo..... Tag

Image
When Shauna tagged me with the meme "Five Famous Oddities about Myself" I was sure she had me confused with somebody else. There's nothing odd about me. Nothing at all! I had a lot of fun reading hers as well as the odds of Amanda , Karmyn , Pete , MJ , Susan , Tiffany , and I'm sure there are more of you............... (I've just amazed myself at how many links I could get in one post!) They really did reach some apogees with their memes....mine will stink in comparison. My first oddity is that it seems that no matter what the conversation is about, when I am in the room it always leads to something that has to do with poo . Just last night we were having dinner with Mike and Kim while talking about the lovely fall foliage and colorful falling leaves. Kim said it brought back childhood memories of one weekend that she and her father gathered leaves from the whole neighborhood and piled them high in their northern California back yard. Monday, after sch...

More Than You Wanted to Know Tag

I was tagged by both Julie and Amanda . Therefore I think it is only fair that my skinny alter-ego, Me2, be allowed to respond along with me. Some of you may have already met. She can be uncouth. So, here we go. Four Jobs I have had in my life. 1) ME. When I was just a kid I picked strawberries. ME2. I ate them 2) ME. As a teenager (when teens were allowed to work) I was the window trim girl on a paint crew. ME2. I flirted with the men. 3) ME. In my 20's and 30's I worked up the ladder in a brokerage firm to become a registered broker, but worked on a team. ME2. Tried to get some rich old geezer to name me on his Last Will and Testament. 4) ME. In my 40's I worked in the investment division of a bank Trust Department. ME2. Farted in the elevator when the auditor rode up. Four Movies I could watch over and over. 1) ME. It's a Wonderful Life ME2. E V E R Y Christmas. I survive by drinking egg nog. 2) Me. Princess Bride ME2. I only acquiese so I can chant 'Humperdinck...

Tag along

When I was little we played many variations on the game " Tag." Frozen Tag, Poison Tag, 123 Tag , and Tag, You're IT are a few that come to mind. There's a new game in town now that I have been blogging - two months this week! During this introduction period I have been ? tagged four times. I skipped number three because I felt I was to new to blogging to make sense with my answers. Todays ?tag is a double tag team . I tagged White Trash with a hoaky questionaire a long time ago and she finally answered my tag and upped the ante with a return ?tag about books. Wintertime is when I do most of my reading, snuggled up in my big easy chair with my quilt and a fire crackling. THE BACK YARD project that we started in March, (no choice) and then the continuing saga of THE BACK YARD has kept me out of my easy chair. Also, I started blogging, and have been spending waaaaaaaaay to much time on this new addiction. (Do we all have to go to some blogger treatment center to k...
