"We're okay down here"

In case you missed the news yesterday, please make sure you read this.

In a world that is full of selfish and brutal acts, it is so refreshing to hear about a man who offered his life for a stranger.

He saw a young man have a seizure and fall onto the subway track as two trains approached. There was no hesitation in his actions. He jumped down there with the helpless one.

After rolling him into a drainage trough, he lay on top of him as the trains rolled over.

Miraculously neither man was injured. (His cap was scuffed.)

His two daughters, still in the crowd above him, were the hero's first thought when the air cleared over them.

He yelled up to tell them "we're okay down here."

Another reminder there are Angels among us.

"Greater love hath no man than this......"

Amazing story. I have to say, though, that I don't think he's an angel. I think he's a man living how God designed us to live. In those actions, he lived as a true human.

I read this story. A good story in the news is rare these days so I enjoy reading good things like this true life one.

The man who saved the guys life should be considered 'Person of the Year' instead of some politician..........

Isn't that wonderful? It's sad, though, that we're amazed when we hear stories like this. Shouldn't we expect this from everyone?

That is an amazing story, and heartwarming. Thanks for sharing that. :D

That was such an incredible story - what a great way to start a new year, with inspiration.

I wonder how many of us would be brave enough to do the same? I know that the "mother" in me would want to react - but could I?

I seen this on GMA this morning and thought it was wonderful! I hope that I would do the same when faced with that kind of decision.

I read it this morning when I signed onto AOL. What an incredible story. God did use him and I'm so glad everyone is okay.

the world would be such a better place if more people acted like this person

Certainly a laudable act of selflessness, but I question his priorities. Why go to the troubler of having children only to possibly leave them without a father.

Not to detract from the act of heroism, just to add balance.

Proof: There are still living, breathing, caring people among the influx of mindless, selfish ones.

I suppose we can all only hope that if we ever fall in front of a moving train - that a h3ro is around to do the RIGHT thing.

We could all learn something from this guy. Not only did he save the young man's life, but he didn't expect any glory for it.

I just read that story about half an hour ago. At first I thought, Wow, a real hero. Then I got to the part about his two young daughters left standing there (and possibly witnessing their father's death) and I wanted to strangle him! If I was the mother of those girls, I would NOT be too happy!

Oh my goodness, I heard about this just one hour ago while I was cooking supper. I was so overwhelmed that I actually had to stop what I was doing and sit down for a minute. Absolutely incredible.

Incidently, Pamela: You leave the best comments!

Pamela, why don't they show more stuff like this on the news?? Maybe I would watch if there was good news occasionally.

I needed to see this today, thank you.

Hey Marnie, I just saw this on the news. You're just not watching a large enough volume of crappy cable news. That's all.

Several of you mentioned his two daughters that could have witnessed the very gruesome death of their father.

That would have been a tragedy - and I had thought about how horrid it would have been for them.

I hadn't considered his making a choice that would have robbed them of his life.

I'm so thankful that it didn't come to that.

I can see both sides of this story. However, I guess his initial instinct was to help someone. It's not like he just stood there and weighed his options. He is a hero.

When you are open to that "still small voice" of God, you follow and ask questions later. He followed and trusted God would take care of the rest.

Wish I would always do that.
