K-K-K-Katy
My mom was born in 1914 and died in 1993. I still miss her; especially when something brings to mind the songs she sang to me and my siblings. Some of the songs have been passed on to my children, and now to their children.
I saw this moon peaking over an old roof covered with moss in Oregon on Saturday morning.. In my heart I could hear her voice and the melody to a World War I Song ("The Sensational Stammering Song Success Sung by the Soldiers and Sailors") -
K-K-K-Katy
Jimmy was a soldier brave and bold,
Katy was a maid with hair of gold,
Like an act of fate,
Kate was standing at the gate,
Watching all the boys while on parade.
Kate smiled, with a twinkle in her eye,
Jim said, m-m-m-meet ya by and by.
That night at eight,
Jim was at the garden gate,
Stuttering this song to K-K-K-Kate.
K-K-K-Katy, beautiful Katy,
You're the only g-g-g-girl that I adore;
When the m-m-m-moon shines,
Over the c-c-c-cowshed,
I'll be waiting at the k-k-k-kitchen door.
K-K-K-Katy, beautiful Katy,
You're the only g-g-g-girl that I adore;
When the m-m-m-moon shines,
Over the c-c-c-cowshed,
I'll be waiting at the k-k-k-kitchen door.
No one ever looked so nice and neat,
No one could be just as cute and sweet,
That's what Jimmy thought,
When the wedding ring he bought,
Soon he'll go to France, the foe to meet.
Jimmy thought he'd like to take a chance,
See if he could make the Kaiser dance,
Stepping to a tune,
All about the silv'ry moon,
This is what they'll hear in far off France.
K-K-K-Katy, beautiful Katy,
You're the only g-g-g-girl that I adore;
When the m-m-m-moon shines,
Over the c-c-c-cowshed,
I'll be waiting at the k-k-k-kitchen door.

So nice to have such a wonderful memory of your Mom.
p.s. I have a very certain feeling that we are "in the same room" with the people on the other side of the veil who have passed on to the next level ... almost like we are using the same space but are made of different matter ... so we don't see them (their matter being more refined), but they are with us, helping us, constantly. Is that weird? But I still enjoy thinking it anyways.
I miss my mom, too.
the moon photo is pretty darn good too!
Great Post!
olivia's middle name is Kate and Brian's Grandma sings that song to her all the time.
i so understand the feeling.. it will be 21 years next month. somtimes it still seems like just yesterday.
hugs
Plus, I love old movies and sometimes I'd watch one that was suppose to take place in a time period before, like the turn of the century...I learned lots of oldies that way, too! :)
Hugs,
Sue
