K-K-K-Katy

My mom was born in 1914 and died in 1993. I still miss her; especially when something brings to mind the songs she sang to me and my siblings. Some of the songs have been passed on to my children, and now to their children.

I saw this moon peaking over an old roof covered with moss in Oregon on Saturday morning.. In my heart I could hear her voice and the melody to a World War I Song ("The Sensational Stammering Song Success Sung by the Soldiers and Sailors") -

K-K-K-KATY

K-K-K-Katy

Jimmy was a soldier brave and bold,
Katy was a maid with hair of gold,
Like an act of fate,
Kate was standing at the gate,
Watching all the boys while on parade.
Kate smiled, with a twinkle in her eye,
Jim said, m-m-m-meet ya by and by.
That night at eight,
Jim was at the garden gate,
Stuttering this song to K-K-K-Kate.

K-K-K-Katy, beautiful Katy,
You're the only g-g-g-girl that I adore;
When the m-m-m-moon shines,
Over the c-c-c-cowshed,
I'll be waiting at the k-k-k-kitchen door.
K-K-K-Katy, beautiful Katy,
You're the only g-g-g-girl that I adore;
When the m-m-m-moon shines,
Over the c-c-c-cowshed,

I'll be waiting at the k-k-k-kitchen door.

No one ever looked so nice and neat,
No one could be just as cute and sweet,
That's what Jimmy thought,
When the wedding ring he bought,
Soon he'll go to France, the foe to meet.
Jimmy thought he'd like to take a chance,
See if he could make the Kaiser dance,
Stepping to a tune,
All about the silv'ry moon,
This is what they'll hear in far off France.

K-K-K-Katy, beautiful Katy,
You're the only g-g-g-girl that I adore;
When the m-m-m-moon shines,
Over the c-c-c-cowshed,
I'll be waiting at the k-k-k-kitchen door.
K-K-K-Katy, beautiful Katy,
You're the only g-g-g-girl that I adore;
When the m-m-m-moon shines,
Over the c-c-c-cowshed,

I'll be waiting at the k-k-k-kitchen door.

Beautiful picture — not to mention, memory.

Great song - but MAN that roof needs some serious redoing. (Dave thinks this fall. I know probably more like next summer if all goes well)

Awww that is so sweet! Great memory for sure! I try and sing to my kids and they ask me to please be quiet. Maybe it's the songs I pick.

This picture is lovely ! My mother was born in 1916 and died in 92. But our relationship was not that great.

So nice! Made me think of the songs my mom sang to me when she rocked me to sleep. Most often "Hush Little Baby" with her deep, almost tenor voice. We also sang in the car on road trips. I've decided to post a couple on my blog. Come on over and see if you recognize any of them!
p.s. I have a very certain feeling that we are "in the same room" with the people on the other side of the veil who have passed on to the next level ... almost like we are using the same space but are made of different matter ... so we don't see them (their matter being more refined), but they are with us, helping us, constantly. Is that weird? But I still enjoy thinking it anyways.

Love it! I know so many old songs, too...this one included! I can hear the tune as plain as day! Mainly because my mom was born in 1927 and in turn, learned songs from her mom, born back in 1888! Mom sand this to me, and another one she'd sing was one about an old grandfather clock. Do you happen to know which one I mean?

Plus, I love old movies and sometimes I'd watch one that was suppose to take place in a time period before, like the turn of the century...I learned lots of oldies that way, too! :)

Hi Pamela, that song was one of the many that my Mum sang around the house too and I too can remember the words to it.

I remember this song. Perhaps, my mom sang it to us too. I do not remember the verses about the soldier, but I definitely recall the refrain. Your picture and memory is lovely.

My mom sang me the same song... actually I think my dad sang it also. Just the other day when I stammered out an answer to my husband he sang it to me. Great post.
