Fun Monday #14 Bad Hair Day

Robin over at Pensieve is hosting this weeks Fun Monday.

She chose "bad hair" as her topic - knowing that
"Bloggers are notorious exhibitionists."

The truth is I have a bad hair day every day
now that I am gray. I see some beautiful silver
and slate tresses out there, including those belonging to my sisters. Unfortunately, my hair is salt and pepper and pipe cleaner.

As generations choose their new hairstyles, they are guaranteeing that they will look at their old photographs many years down the road and wonder, "What were we thinking?"

My generation thought "big hair" and "ratting" was quite the thing. That was before the politically correct term of "teasing" even made it to town.

My favorite memory is of a stuck-up carrot-red head named Cheryl. One afternoon she was directly in front of me as I walked across the school campus. Her hair was ratted into one of those extreme styles that made me feel like I was following behind the great pumpkin head.

That's when a gift arrived from somewhere high in the sky. With no warning, a big bird blob of poop fell directly on the top of her style. The gooey mess made sudden impact with little initial damage because she was hair-sprayed stiff as a chain-link fence. However, as she walked, there was a slow slicing and dicing down through the tangled layers towards her scalp. Its cold tickle must have registered in her brain and she began to shake her head, flail her arms, and scream "H.E.LP, H.E.L.P" to her walking partner.

Perhaps I should have yelled "Bombs Away," or said something equally as clever a bit earlier, to make her aware that she'd been splatted. Unfortunately, I was laughing too hard shy when I was a teenager. If that happened today, I would attempt to identify the species of bird involved.

Hope you enjoy my big hair, and check out the rest of the participants locks as well.

I also wonder what we will think of our '07 hair and clothes in 20-30 years?

Love the story about Cheryl! I can't imagine how much work it was to get the hair teased just so?

I used to cross stitch a lot. I probably was threading a needle. I hadn't even noticed that.

I'm one step behind Willowtree at every site I visit today. I too was thinking MTM when I saw your picture. I loved the big hair...even the ones with bird poop and spiders.

I wore that hairstyle as a kid. The sad thing is, I had a friend who wore the exact same style in the 80's. And even sadder than that, I wore an updated version of that same do in the late 90's.

It was very good hair for its time. It even tried to make a come-back. And it looks good on you!

I'm laughing here, lovely story, fancy not telling her he he he :)) This is a lovely photo and stylish as of then.
Ahhhhh...so perhaps this is the psychological start to your love of birds? LOL My worst hair photos are all in young elementary when perms became the rage. I looked like a freak poodle who'd stuck their finger in a light socket for several years.

Hugs,
Holly

Gosh I SO wanted to have hair like that - but whether I rolled it or not - two minutes in the Houston humidity and I looked like Janis Joplin again!!

I've always wondered -- how did you lot get it to look so perfect?!? Especially the shape! I've tried it before only to end in catastrophe haha! One must share the secrets to big hair!

Wow! I love that hair - from your photo and photos I've seen of my mum and aunt, people, ahem, back then really seemed to make an effort with their appearance. Although nowadays that amount of hairpray might see you arrested by greenpeace.

My Mom's Sr. Picture from 1972 has the same hairstyle.

I'm officially losing my mind...I swear I had a one-liner on this post. Durn.

Although, yes, very MTM (thought stealers, Min and WT), you're BEAUTIFUL! You were a victim of the styles of the day, and I'm here to tell ya, if they were posting "bad hair" pics back then, no way they'd accept your submission.

Love the story. It added a lot of flavor...umm...color to the day ;).

You guys, who does Pamela look like? Someone famous but I can't put my finger on it.

I'll think about it for a bit and see if I can come up with it...

Oh man, I can imagine what a mess that made in back-combed hair. Yikes!

You look like a classic lady there. I'm getting a new do tomorrow. Hopefully it won't look like any of these photos I've seen for fun MOnday;)

I bet you were so stylin' back then! It's amazing how styles have changed over the years. I wonder who determines that?

I love your BIG hair, it's a beautiful photo. Hilarious story about Cheryl, maybe with her orange hair the bird was using her as target practice.LOL!

well if that's bad hair I wish my hair looked that bad everyday.

i love the photo and you know big hair is making a big comeback. You better get your aqua net back out.
