Macro Monday - Freezing Fog

For Christmas, our daughter Amanda gifted us with a wind chime created from spoons. This morning it was festively decorated in natures white wrap as it hung on our patio.





I don't have a macro lens - but my canon rebel did an 'ice job!

Macro Monday is a weekly photographic celebration over at Lisa's Chaos. This is my first flight.

That's a very ice photograph. We have those kind of icy shots when the inversions stay for a while. Looks like a winter wonderland.

I love frozen fog. Here we call it horror frost. My parents live near the power plants and there is a lot of humidity in the air so they have it on all their trees. It's beautiful close up and far off.

Very cool photo!! And I LOVE those windchimes made of spoons....we saw some of those at a craft show we went to just before the holidays and almost bought one....now I wish that I had! Happy New Year Pamela!

Rime icing (the given name for this stuff I'm told) is always good camera fodder. It can actually get several feet -- or even yards -- thick in some climates (which is a pretty spectacular sight, but I wouldn't want to go through what I'd have to go through to capture it!)

A macro lens is nice to have (I would assume, I don't have one either) but as you've demonstrated here, it's not a requirement. Long-ish focal length on a close subject will do the job nicely.

I love the quiet feeling of this shot. I think it's probably the delicacy of the crystals that gives it that quality.

An Old Cold Spot

My brother Mike emailed me this photo last night.  He said this was a goodbye salute that he snapped today in his garage where this old freezer has been chugging away since 1988.  That was the year our mama decided she was tired of bending over and digging through it.  Besides, she no longer needed the capacity and hadn't for several years. Mike and my sister-in-law  spent the next 25 years "digging" through this old freezer.  My sis-in-law was very good at keeping it and the cupboards stocked.  The two of them kept promising each other that "It is going to die soon, so we will just keep it until that day." Twenty-five years may seem like a very long life for a freezer.  It is MUCH older than that. Sears only sold Coldspot through 1976.  I thought that my parent's purchased this freezer in the sixties.  My brother said he put the serial number 'on-line' and it matched a 1953 manufacturing date.   Here is a close up of...

Apparitions in my Garden

Karmyn is the host of Fun Monday this week with a subject that is near and dear to her heart. Not to mention her knees and fingers. But I mentioned them anyway. The subject? --- What's Growing In Your Garden. As soon as I signed up I grabbed my camera and headed out the back door. Alyssum, lady's mantle, gaillardia, Jupiter beard, and a bunch of other stuff I can't remember is blooming in this photo. We didn't put as many annuals in this year so I miss all the yellows and reds that we often enjoy. But, something else showed up in that surprised me. Can it be that my yard is haunted?
