Traveling

Two hours into our road trip, a highway patrol passed us on a mountain curve. Three curves later we caught up with him before he even exited his car. It was early. I prayed that the driver was alive inside of there and not under the influence .The very first rest stop employed a congress of ravens. I took a picture so that Robin of Pensive would notice that they have a bump on their beaks.

Whereas Crows are happy to congregate most anyway, including inside the city limits, Ravens prefer the country. Ravens can be as large as some hawks. When I encounter a Raven, I think of Edgar Allen Poe. Once upon a midnight dreary.

Eastern Oregon. So much different than the green picturesque Oregon coast that Shelly Dupree speaks of with such longing and desire. I drove highway 95 (a two lane highway) from Ontario Oregon to Winnemucka, Nevada . There wasn't much between me and the open spaces except a few barbed wire fences. Once, after about a 20 miles straight stretch the road curved slightly to the left. The hubby opened his eyes and acknowledged,

"Hey! A Curve!"

On our 750 mile drive to California we left Washington, briefly entered Idaho, spent hours on the Eastern most edge of Oregon and put the pedal to the metal once we entered Nevada.Somehow, the hubby got to do all the freeway driving time.

We were on the road for 12 hours. When you don't have to fight traffic the road rolls at a much faster pace.

We got here early evening, which gave the hubby an
opportunity to perfect his grandpa skills on the newborn Dinkum.I put this picture in because the Ramblin Irishman is always loving on his grand kids, too.

Here are two that think a few smiles will distract Grandma
and her camera so they can garner some attention.

They were so right.

Hey - Susan in VA , Kila, JJ, Barngoddess, Wolfbaby, and all you other lovely ladies and your posing kids. Did these two know how to say cheese, or what? Peanut turned 2 on August 4 and Goober
was 5 in mid June.

Hope to find some time to catch up on my seventy jillion blogs I love to read. You all know who you are!!

I'm missing Fun Monday, but I'm going to try and find time to read the entries after bedtimes this week.

If I had the time to write for Lisa's topic "Why Do I blog," I might have said:
I blog, therefore I am.

I hate coming across accidents like that.

Glad you made it safely - Oh my - Peanut really got his head shaved. He looks so much older than when we saw him in July with a bunch of hair.

(I was thinking: "Nevada - what in the heck were you doing in Nevada?")

Glad you got there safely.

I've spent a night in Winnemucka, for the next three days I couldn't get the phrase "Run amok in Winnemucka" out of my head.

:) we know YOU'RE more glad you're there after that long of a trip!!! And the pictures show it's sooo worth it :) :) :).

Thanks for the primer in ravens vs. crows, lol...apparently I needed the lesson!

Have a great trip..."see ya" when you get back to your regularly scheduled programming :).

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

how great! You must be having a ball!

I when my kids were really little, each time we saw an ambulance racing somewhere we would say a little 'prayer'(more like wishing them well) for the hurt person out loud. They still do this today! lol its funny.

Safe travels and I really would love the onion casserole recipe!

Lovely photos. We made the drive from San Diego to Silverdale, WA twice and I'll never get over going from hardscape to landscape (natural, that is). All I could exclaim over and over, after 4 years in barren SoCal, was OMG look at the trees and stars, we can see stars.

Willowtree spent the night in Winnemucca? I make my kids get out and walk around when we stop there for gas on the way to visit my dad, and the kids actually announce that they prefer the car.

Dinkum is so cute, as are all your lovely little grandkids. I want to smoosh all their cheeks. :)

Just curious, if you got there before the cop got out of the car, who put the cone in the middle of the road? But more importantly, those are two beautiful kids. No wonder you two are easily distracted.

I love what you might have said if you had done FM!!

The thing about cheesin' it up is us parents get them trained with all the photos we take of them...they know the drill...ham for the cam!!!

I think I am finding it..slowly but surely! I have been going around alot saying where there is a will there is a way! I will find my way to keep blogging! Thanks for your comment!!
"i blog therefore i am" is perfect! :o)

Was a long trip but worthwhile when I see the pictures !!
Glad you made it through those curves all right — and back safely, to boot.

That long ride was well worth the treasure at the end. :)

So ravens have bumps. Good to know. I've been noticing a lot of big black birds around this spring and summer. I've just been calling them all crows.

So glad you made it there safely.

What beautiful grandkids! How wonderful! My hubby use to live in Oregon and he says the east is opposite of the west in more ways than one but he loved it there.

Hugs to you and hope to see more photos of your trip home.

Thanks for dropping by my blog. Believe me, I don't think bad of you at all for laughing about the grown-man-cry-baby hanging onto my leg during the hurricane. It made me laugh then and it still makes me laugh!

Long drive! But worth it! What part of Calif did you say you visited? I am in LA. And guess what? The word "Puyallup" just snapped me wide awake because we drive through Puyallup often when we visit Lee's parents in Washington (Federal Way). I think I haven't been paying attention. Do you live in Washington? We will be there in September for Lee's bro's wedding. We'd love to visit if you are in.
Loved the boot story, the raven story "never more", love your phrases: congress of ravens, and the way you turn a phrase, and dinkum is crazy cute as are the two older gk's.
That pond! When I saw the heading I thought: "Oh, Pamela and I dug ponds ... they will look similar ... NOPE ... mine is a hole in the ground with a tarp in it to keep the water in. YOURS looks like a professional oriental gardener spent a year on it! WOW WOW WOW. Beautiful! Now I REALLy want to visit!!! Thanks for always visiting my blog. You are so kind. I appreciate your comments and friendship.
Let me know if you need anything from Calif. I can bring it up with me.

...yes, I remember Eastern Oregon. Most people think it doesn't exist. Isn't there a Moonrock Park (or something like that) in the middle of nowhere?

We once drove there to see the massive moonish landscape. Interesting but not worth the drive. YOUR destination is MUCH better!
