It's All About Friendship
The last one -- Fern is 101. But her best friends, her sisters, are still very close to her heart.
Fun Monday is being hosted by Mariposa today. And, It's All About Friendship.
that is a WONDERFUL group of pictures! My brothers and I get together and manage a group shot about once every 10 years. Kind of sad that it takes us that long to be in the same place at the same time!
Makes me cry, every time. I feel so blessed to have the knowledge of our family history. The pictures are amazing. The stories are even better. Fern is such a special woman.
I love the parade of fashion - the "page girl" look in picture one to the green and yellow daisy dress in 1971..
...and its living proof that the world was black and white until sometime in the 30's or so when the first color arrived... and then to keep their memories, people used black and white film... until giving in to color for good in the 60's.
OMG! I was having goosebumps looking through the pics...how wonderful! Certainly pictures paint a thousand words...and this one paints wonderful words and memories of friendships!
Amazing is the first picture, it looks as if the hairdresser had put a pot on their heads and just cut around. The picture above the last one looks as if taken at my aunt's in Madison, the same wooden pannel and the same sofa and her friends looked also the same. Aunt Fern was very lucky to have her sisters as friends. I know a lot of women who don't talk to their sister(s) anymore, that's rather sad. I am an only child, so I can choose my friends that's also an advantage.
Hats off to these ladies for taking the time to document these times together. What a special memory for their families. I love looking at the differences in the hair styles and dress styles. My favorite is the last one. Those wrinkled little hands...
My brother Mike emailed me this photo last night. He said this was a goodbye salute that he snapped today in his garage where this old freezer has been chugging away since 1988. That was the year our mama decided she was tired of bending over and digging through it. Besides, she no longer needed the capacity and hadn't for several years. Mike and my sister-in-law spent the next 25 years "digging" through this old freezer. My sis-in-law was very good at keeping it and the cupboards stocked. The two of them kept promising each other that "It is going to die soon, so we will just keep it until that day." Twenty-five years may seem like a very long life for a freezer. It is MUCH older than that. Sears only sold Coldspot through 1976. I thought that my parent's purchased this freezer in the sixties. My brother said he put the serial number 'on-line' and it matched a 1953 manufacturing date. Here is a close up of the make and model that
Construction and completion of a new fish ladder has discouraged my walks on the creek this summer and fall. So I was surprised when my car turned in that direction yesterday when I thought I was headed to the other walking path nearby. The parking lot was nearly empty and there was a sign that said closed. However, the park ranger who happened to be standing on the sidewalk called out that it was indeed open. I happily crossed the bridge. This time of year gives me some apprehension for walking alone. Several years ago this season was when I encountered the beautiful Bobcat that pretty much seemed indifferent to my presence. This is the time of year when cougar sightings are common as well. Quite a few years past I saw a bear after hearing it rushing away through the underbrush. Only a few years ago I came across a person rising from his sleeping bag partially hidden in the bushes. I had the advantage of already being in boots and full stride so was out of sight in seconds.
On New Years Eve I heard the local fireworks that cracked and thumped in our neighborhood, and continued into the early hours of 2021. It's not that I denied anyone their celebration; I just prefer to sleep when I can and wake up in a New Year feeling fine. No Auld Lang Syne and no crack, snapple, pop.. I always sigh jealousy at the husband's breathing while his C-pap machine whirs quietly. In addition to being able to fall asleep almost immediately, he has the blessing of maintaining a refreshing slumber. Undisturbed. So, that's kind of where we were once more just two weeks into the New Year. I told him to sleep and I would maintain my watch, waiting for updates from our son in law on the life of our middle daughter. Rest had been unattainable for the last 30 hours and I insisted that my husband go to bed because one of us needed to have some semblance of sanity and control. It certainly wasn't going to be me. Our son-in-law had been frantic and sleepless and w

Is that the youngest sister who in half the early pictures looks chronically displeased? Glad to see she cheered up in the later pictures. ;)
