Fun Monday #39, Don't Leave Home Without It

Candid Karina is hosting today's FUN MONDAY. She wants us to be very CANDID...about what we take with us everywhere we go. Her words:
I want to see your security blankets. No, not the kind Linus carries around with him in the Charlie Brown cartoons, although, if you have one of those, by all means share it. What I want to see are the items you just cannot leave home without. What is it that if you leave your house without, you feel naked, incomplete, not quite right? This can be one thing or many things. And since most of us don't live in a clothing optional society, lets just assume we all leave the house fully dressed...I want to hear about those other things...the extras. The things that make women's purses so heavy and men's pockets so messy (I'm going to get grief for this one, aren't I?) What can't you leave home without? Show us pictures, tell us stories...have fun!
I have entirely too much junk in my purse and most of it I could leave at home. Distraction is a poor excuse for not removing it.
It holds my day timer/address book, my credit cards, my grandchildren photographs, my lipsticks, lotions, eye drops, fingernail file, pay stubs, store receipts, Altoids, and the kitchen sink. The strap groove is my shoulder is proof of a far too heavy bag.
The past few years I have added several items to this carry-all. Just in case I want to blog it, paint it, or identify it, I take the following:

ps. If I'm spending the night, I take my pillow and comforter, too.

Love the camera, and I have a small pair of binoculars that I regularly take with me (when I go to the beach).

I need to start taking my camera with me. I am not nearly as cool as you. I am glad to know that someone else travels with their own pillow.
funny, just this morning we took the dogs for a walk, and i stood for just a sec and stared at my camera, debating.

i ended up leaving it behind.

My purse is full of junk too, and I did not bother to remove it for this assignment.

Oh binoculars and a bird identification book, that is how you know robins from starlings. (He,he) Your camera is very, very nice.

Binocs - good idea!

I would take my camera more, but it is so big and cumbersome.

You're right - I hadn't thought of that - I take my camera almost everywhere too!

A bird guide!!!! I too am a birdwatcher. But most times, I fail to have the camera with me at the time. Good idea.

Mine's posted...
Have a great MOANday.

Hmmm, you're ready for SPY duty; Vicki would be proud :).

If my camera's not in the car, I rely on my cell phone--not near as good of quality, but it's been helpful nonetheless.

I think we'll see lots of common threads today...

BTW, CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR FAMILY'S "NEWS" :) :) :)!

Wow, the list of your purse contents makes me tired just thinking about carrying it!! ;-)

Happy Monday!

Good morning! Which of the above things do you paint with?

Just kidding. My mother-in-law paints from photos too (Is that what you mean? Maybe I need to start drinking coffee.

And I thought you had all the bird knowledge in your head! That is a great camera. I am upgrading soon (my daughter wants my old one) and was thinking of getting a Canon. Do you love yours?

U go girl! I like taking my pillow too! The camera is usually close but seems I always miss the shot I really wanted. . .

You make me want to travel with you even more. :) I always leave my binoculars at home :(. I have taken shots through them before though, have you tried that? Just line up one side of the binoculars over your little lens and you can zoom even further. :)
I won't even get started on all the stuff my wife carries in her purse. Let it suffice to say I have a hard time lifting it and I am a fairly strong person. I refuse to put my hand in it to find something for fear of being stabbed, pinched or bitten. Now me, on the other hand, I take only what I need. Keys, wallet, and my address so I can find my way back home... hopefully.

I need to start carrying my camera with me too - I've missed too many good shots.

I had binoculars in the car, but the boythings broke them. Thankfully, they weren't expensive.

If I didn't know better, I'd say those were the tools of the trade for a Peeping Tom!

I needed your bird book this weekend while camping. We saw a red bird with a distinctive face--black around the eyes, orangish red beak, crop of crazy hair. Robin? What do I know.
By the way, I took pictures of the birds in our backyard when they were born, but our camera was out of battery, and the cell phone pics didn't come out well. Too fuzzy to see anything. Is it helpful if I saw they were brown and small?

Hey I take my pillow with me too when I'm overnighting it somewhere. I thought I was weird bringing it but now I know there's no way that's weird :o)

The bird book is a smart call. I wish I had your catch all. I'm forever asking my two year old where everything is.

Embee always used to take binoculars when we went on holiday but then he rarely remember to actually take them out on walks so not a lot of use really. I think we missed seeing a lot of interesting wildlife.

YES! I try and bring my camera with me everywhere. Sure enough, if I don't a rare photo op will present its self and there I am, with only my phone camera which takes totally crappy pictures.
What else do you paint?

The last two road trips I went on I took my camera and I was so glad. My husband helped me get the pictures I wanted when we went to Wichita together. So we both enjoyed the trip better trying to find interesting shots. I am going to do this more often now that I have a blog. Must have material, right?
it's that kitchen sink that makes your bag so heavy, you know! :o)

blog it, paint it, or identify it...I love it! This is what the blogosphere has done to us! ;-)
I love that you always have your camera with you. I really need to get in the habit of that.

Happy Fun Monday!

Those are good items to have on hand. I always try to take my camera, but I hadn't thought of binoculars. I think I'll keep an extra set in the car. The field guides do get brought along for many activities.

Just love the camera!!! I want one! Maybe I 'll get another soon. I told my hubby that since my BD & Christmas was so close he could just get me a new camera. He don't take hints to well or clothes shop well either, so I have to just tell him. Men! he!he! he!

There have been a few people who never leave their camera at home. Trust me...at work I have nothing to take a picture of...otherwise I might actually take mine with me.

Neat idea to take the binoculars! I can't believe I forgot to mention that my camera is always in my purse. I guess I forgot because I was using it to take pics of what was in the purse...LOL

That is funny. It reminded me of a couple of months ago when I went for a hair appointment with my mom and sister. Afterwards we went to a fast food restaurant for lunch, and in the line up, my sister is looking for a wallet, and says "oh yeah, I have your pie plate" and pulls my glass pie plate from her purse. She was wondering why her bag was so heavy.
I got a new bag today and will be doing an organizing my purse post on Wednesday since I am so organized and I have a million things in it and I was just so excited to find what I was looking for.

Oh shoot I forgot to say my camera!! It is always with me!! Almost more likely to be there then my phone. Of course I was busy using it to take pictures to think to put it on as well.

I just came from Karmyns blog. I hear congrats are in order Grandma!
Hi, first timer here ... loved poking around and admiring your photos. I had never heard of this fun Monday before. Thanks!

Did Karina say anything about spending the night? 'Cause if she did, I take a condom...and a lot of blind optimism.
