Pensieve's Poetic License

Robin (of Pensieve) invites one and all to join in July's Poetic License as she introduces her own style of poetry. Read about it here. The abbreviated version is: the style involves the five senses, reflection and some play on words.

I never follow the rules entirely - but my work is close enough to join the thousands (big smile) who will participate by linking to Robin's post on Friday.

Yesterday we had our first rain of the summer. These thoughts were lingering in my head long before her invitation arrived. So, it was easy for me to be pensieve about

SUMMER RAIN

Dawn's pitter-patter on the skylight and the echoing murmur in the downspout stirs me from my slumber.

The dampened breeze through the opened window feathers my cheek and teases my lashes until they open.

Countless aqua dribbles explore the dusty trailed pane while triumphant drops bounce through the screen to sparkle on the sill.

Earthy scents waft on the gentle zephyr, replacing the night's stale haze with a pungent invitation to breathe in deeply and reminisce.

Savored moments linger as the first summer rain quenches nature's parched spirit...and I am refreshed.

(ps. Robin will be linking all participants to the Poetic License on Friday!)

Very refreshing! I like it! I have not had time to write one and have to admit was not sure how to go about this one. Glad to see someones on the ball! Great job!

We haven't had rain in months, so it was lovely to live vicariously.

Lovely - I can smell it.

I'm trying hard of what to write about but the only inspiration I seem to be having is dirty diapers and who wants to read about that?

I'm going to send this to my uncle, a poet who's been nominated thrice for a Pulitzer. Perhaps he'll have something for Robin. She sleighs me.

Karmyn,

Holy heck, girl, WRITE ABOUT DIRTY DIAPERS! THAT WOULD BE HEE-LAIR!

M@...is that a good thing or a bad thing? Either way, cool on your uncle--hope he writes!

Pamela, even though I need to consult a dictionary...I LOVED THIS! I can not only smell it, I can see and taste and touch and hear it :). Good job, Chicka...me likey, a lot-y :)

Well I'm quite impressed with the poem you wrote...it's terrific!!! Glad to hear you finally got some rain. We've had a couple of cloud bursts here but nothing that lasts more than a minute or two...we need a good steady rain and apparently might get that during the night tonight!! xoxo

Great stuff... no need to be pensive (smile). And, you reminder that I have a poetry book that I haven't visited in quite some time now. Life is so busy with so much we can tend to forget even the smallest things that would bring us joy.

"pungent invitation to breathe in deeply and reminisce"...I love that line! Love it!

I participated too, at my Creative Karina blog...I probably won't be able to post my link until later tomorrow, so check me out if you get a chance! ;-)

Wow, a dual purpose poem, not only do you get to play PPL, but I get a weather report.

OH yeah, I just realised, surely with all the rain, you could have worked a bucket in there somehow...just saying

Karmyn,

You've got me hanging on every word, syllable, ADJECTIVE!! I'm there girl, I'm really there.

I feel this poem.

Robin did a good job with what she's made this poem out to be. You took the form and plugged in words that I think achieved her goal. This was good! Glad I stopped by.

Pamela, I called you Karmyn by accident, but I was talking directly to you. I knew I was. I just typed the wrong name and I don't know why. Trust me, I was talking about you! Sorry!

This poem made me say, "Mmmmm" out loud because I absolutely love summer rains!

The fourth line of this poem was my favorite!!! I felt like I could close my eyes and experience it, which is exactly what you want your readers to see!

That poem is just perfect but over here we get a little too much rain for me to wax lyrical :)

Even though we are in the throes of Winter rain here, I could really feel the beauty of it.

Thank you for coming by mine also. :)

Beautiful...
Not any rain here except for just a few little drops yesterday before the sun came out.
Although I get more than I want of rain here in Oregon most of the year, there is something refreshing about the scent after a refreshing rainfall...

(I can't remember if I already told you- my blog name is now Lattes and Lollypops!)

Pamela I envy your ability to use words so creatively. As some of the others have mentioned, I could almost feel and smell the rain from your writing. Sure wish we could get a few storms to cool things down around here but then the grain farmers would not be happy. Have a nice day.

... girl! You sure can turn a phrase.

Very nice poem. We have a skylight above our bed and are awakened by rain in the morning too. I can so relate to the words you have written.
