Divine Vine

The Clematis blooms once more beside the back yard gate.

Rainy and cooler weather best describes our spring so the flowers are a tiny bit smaller than last year.

However, the Rhododendron just beyond the gate prefers this weather. They bloomed with abandoned this week while I was gone.

They are past their prime bloom - but still appealing to a regular sized stinging creature (on the right) and a BIG bumble bee (left) sharing the blossom.


I didn't have the ruler with me, so I improvised.


*Trifocals come in very handy.

Your clematis is gorgeous. They don't grow that large here, probably too hot. Great captures with the insects, too.

Those blossoms are huge! We've seen a good number of the BIG bumblebees this year too. I've seen quite a few drilling into wood (for nests??)

They are very lovely! Today it finally stopped raining here, but just for an hour or so, I rushed out into the garden and trimmed back all my citrus trees and chillie trees. Then started to get stuck into the vegie patch! My Father in law caught me and took that as his chance to start clearing it all out. I had to quickly run in and save all my babies and put them in pots. You see I like to leave it to nature and he does not! Now he is planning on putting something in there to kill the grubs. OMG! I don't think he knows what organic means! Then of course it started raining again!

There's some Clematis growing beautifully like that at my mother's house right beside her door on her back deck (where everybody goes in and out-it should be the front door).. gorgeous pic! Thanks for sharing with us..take care and happy Sunday.

That is so beautiful. I thought I had a Clematis growing behind my mailbox, but the blooms are purple but just as big. Maybe it isn't what I thought it was.

Oh well, the moles killed it last year, so not sure if it will come back up anyway.

Oh My Gooooodness!!! Look at your Clematis!!! Blooms already!! and Huge ones too...

(that bee is huge too)

My Clematis is about 3 feet tall and just vine... no leaves. Due to the cold and rain.... it will fill out by July. (I hope)

That is gorgeous!! You must have the greenest of thumbs! I love the old fashioned quality of clematis. We have some on the front yard arbor and next to the back deck. Those are just beginning but have blooomed already! The front arbor is a mix of two different clematis so they bloom all through the Summer.

An Old Cold Spot

My brother Mike emailed me this photo last night.  He said this was a goodbye salute that he snapped today in his garage where this old freezer has been chugging away since 1988.  That was the year our mama decided she was tired of bending over and digging through it.  Besides, she no longer needed the capacity and hadn't for several years. Mike and my sister-in-law  spent the next 25 years "digging" through this old freezer.  My sis-in-law was very good at keeping it and the cupboards stocked.  The two of them kept promising each other that "It is going to die soon, so we will just keep it until that day." Apparitions in my Garden

Karmyn is the host of Fun Monday this week with a subject that is near and dear to her heart. Not to mention her knees and fingers. But I mentioned them anyway. The subject? --- What's Growing In Your Garden. As soon as I signed up I grabbed my camera and headed out the back door. Alyssum, lady's mantle, gaillardia, Jupiter beard, and a bunch of other stuff I can't remember is blooming in this photo. Bird Voyeur

The sweet little digital camera that the hubby purchased (after I dropped our old one) has encouraged me to do a little more walking. Last week I took it with me when I walked up the "creek" path, which doubles for joggers and bikers as well. I've seen beavers, mink, deer, birds, birds, birds, and once the tail end of a bear run running away through the brush. Of course, without a camera. Now I carry it often. This time I was watching the Belted King Fisher performing an acrobatic display and chattering at the ducks and geese in his fishing territory. I was zooming in on him in a tree across the water when I spotted what I thought was a huge wasp or hornet nest very high in the tree. (Thanks to Susan for bringing up bee's today.) The heavy binoculars were at home, so I continued to try to see it through my camera. Then, a weird movement caught my eye.
