Wild Geese

Heading north.

There is no explanation for the strange yearning that takes hold of me.

I hear the calls of the wild geese echoing across the valley and my eyes and heart are hypnotically drawn to the sky.

I want to fly and to follow the wind and the muted cry of the winged leader.

The sunshine casts their shadow across my wistful countenance while they somehow use it's angle to calculate and correct their course.

They know their destination.

Every fall, every spring - they leave me below as they disappear over the horizon.

As long as they don't poop on you, it's all good! :)

Hi Pamela, I hope you had a hat on as the geese flew over head...... LOL

I like that poem, Pamela. And the picture suits it perfectly.

I love the formation of geese as they fly. It's clever how they take turns to lead the group.

Stir-crazy.
I get that way in spring.

Beautiful post. I feel that way when I see a hawk circling in the sky. I'm a loner:o)

Just beautiful, Pamela. I want to go, too.

That was just beautiful!
For the layered look of my hair, yes it is easy to take of and feels a lot better.
I wish I could fly with them too.

I love the geese, too - we will hear them, and run outside to watch them fly over. Of course, I usually see them when they are heading south. That's when I know that winter is just around the bend.

We will fly with them, one day - I'm sure of it!

well written!

when I hear the calls of the geese, I am magically transported back to N.MI. Sometimes I miss my home state so much I ache for it.

Great photo. I guess we should be expecting them here in the next 9-12 days ;-). We have a provincial park with a lake that is warmed by cooling the power plants. Some geese stay all year now. The park in the summer is an adventure in watching ones step and watching ones snack food.

I have been transported.

Very nice.

Your comment was, as per usual, hysterical. Haven't found it. Answer was: "I knew you would make a scene, so (he HAD to shoo me out). For the record, I have NEVER made a scene ... in a hotel. ha. Actually, he couldn't recollect a time I had ever made a scene ... and boy is he sorry and helpful this week. He's actually going to clean house tonight with me. I have got to remember to strike more often. Lol.

The geese look beautiful against that so blue sky.

I LOVE our Canadian Geese who make their way home this time of year. It's such a great feeling when I hear their honking or sit and watch them in the water.

Your word pictures never cease to amaze me. You have such talent, my friend!

Love the photo. Ours are still here, refusing to fly north. I keep hoping.

Reminds me of a dog I used to have. You should have seen the look on this black lab puppy's face the first time he saw geese honking in the sky!

Hi Pamela, I have always loved the old "Cry of the Wild Goose" song,
"My heart knows what the wild goose knows
And I must go where the wild goose goes.
A Frankie Laine memory from 1950.
Absolutely no umbrage taken from your comment on Easter post, thanks for your concern and thoughts.

Today we saw about a million black birds sitting in some trees near our house. They were so noisy and when they flew it was a like a big black cloud. Kind of like a plague! Ha ha. Exaggerating about the million!

You really have a way with words. Lovely picture also. After the snow yesterday I still believe spring will come soon. Happy Easter!

They are not very loyal to any one place that's for sure. That was beautiful.

Beautifully written. No matter how much we love home, some of us are lured by the horizon when the migrating birds call.

I was just thinking, what beautiful words, how uplifting, and then I read the first comment here and cracked up laughing. Isn't it great that people can enjoy life while still keeping it real?

We did a song several years ago for all region choir competition titled "Something Told the Wild Geese". Your photo is a perfect accompaniment!
This weekend I had to stop my car and wait for geese to cross.

I love that.
