I'm Hair for Fun Monday

Bad haircuts were a fact of life growing up. In fact, those home cut tresses gave my brother plenty of ammunition for teasing me and another sister.

Mama didn’t use her dishes when she gave haircuts, and for that fact we were most thankful. We were quite horrified by the bowl cuts worn by some school chums.

I don’t know if it was a borrowed phrase, or if my brother just came up with the taunt of his own accord.

T-Bangs.  Nanner, nanner, nanner!

It seems quite innocuous by today’s standards - but it was enough to keep us whining to our mother. She was eventually overwhelmed by our complaints and locked herself in the bathroom to cry.

In spite of those memories, the very worst haircut of my life occurred the day before WR’s 10th high school class reunion.

My male stylist had been doing a fairly consistent trim – except that he was leaving too much length on top. I wanted to have a little more bounce up there.

I may have badgered him about it.

Looking back, I really wish that he’d have taken my mother’s cue, and just locked himself in the bathroom.

Instead, he pretty much gave me a crew-cut.

I’m lucky there is no photo. He’s lucky there is no photo, as the one that comes to mind would be my mug shot after the discovery of his battered body.

I suspect, however, a juror of my peers would have found me not guilty.

Sandy, at Myanderings, is hosting Fun Monday today!  Of course, you guessed - the topic is bad haircuts.   Run (but not with your scissors) on over there and join in the fun!

Ummm HELLLLLOOOOO ......where are the pictures?? he he....says she who did not play!

Now speaking of Bowl cuts! Gameboy had a hair cut about 6 months ago from a friend who happens to be a hairdresser! She noted that he wanted to grow his hair long and also noted that she was not into long hair on boys and went to work!

The disgust on the boys face was priceless! "SHE bloody gave me a BOWL cut!!!!!" LOL ....I don't know who laughed louder...her or me...but she certainly fixed him up with a short, back and sides before she left and then went on tell everyone who would listen that Karismas kid had a go at her hair do "a bloody bowl cut" is now her specialty!

As for the boy, he has not had a hair cut since and has told every body who will listen that "That Michelle is a bloody bad hair dresser! And she will no way be coming near him ever again! " LOL He also advises that no-one else go to her either as she does not listen to what one wants! haha! Sorry but if you only knew them both you would be rolling on the floor, Michelle is far more stubborn than Gameboy, she is nothing at all like Karisma! Bless her heart! I can see a war starting here! LOL

Do not badger anyone who wields scissors. It will not end well.

Oh my goodness! I've had some really bad haircuts, but never a crew cut. You exercised such incredible restraint in not turning those scissors right back on him.

Geez you keep coming up with great titles for these!

LOL oh no, not a crew cut, yikes! I hope it grew out quickly!

Why is it that our 1/2 inch is different from the hairdressers 1/2, seems they always make it shorter then what we wanted. I remember my Gran cutting my hair when I was little..she did a great job. I also would trim my girls hair...just bangs and lenght. Thanks for sharing Pamela and Happy FM

Wowzers. My Mom cut mine too. I have curley hair so it is hard to mess up to bad.... but the bangs. They shrink after you they dry!!! One time in Jr. High mine were so short I thought I would die. Mom said no one would notice (yea, right they were higher than the middle of my forehead). The principal stopped me in the hall and told all the other girls that this is how they should all wear their bangs ( remember when it was like a rebellion to have long bangs... those teachers and principals didn't know how lucky they were). Anyway I thought I would die and even cried. I should have joined your mom in the bathroom.

I have no pictures either, but my hair stories are rather boring, because I almost always had the same cut and color, my only adventure was perms when I looked like a curly sheep.
I had the chance that wigs were very much in fashion so I wore them when my hairs were hanging down (what they did most of the time) !
Yeah, I'm thinkin' that there are many, many hairdressers on the planet who have no math skills or there wouldn't be so many people holding their heads and literally crying, "I just wanted 1/2 inch!! Only 1/2 inch!! Why?! Why??!! WHYYYYY??!!!"

And that is why I went Bohemian for 20 years!!
I wish there were pics of Yours, if you feel lthe need for a flashback, pop on over to my page....pics of me sporting my new flat top...lol

I had 4 brothers and my dad always cut their hair until they were teens and they preferred to go to a barber...dad was always giving them buzz cuts! lol My mom would cut my bangs and trim my hair...oh yes, many a times the bangs were veryyyy short. The only time I can really say I cried over a haircut was when I was 15 years old. I had waist lenght hair and mom had given me money to go see the most famous hairdresser in the area...Frank Morasco, who'd won many awards and such for his skill...well, let's put it this way, when he was done with me I looked in the mirror and completely broke down! If I had an inch of hair left on my head I was lucky. The next day I was leaving to go on a class trip for a week and I wore a hat all the time! lol xoxo

We never paid for haircuts. How different it is now. My aunt cut my bangs CROOKED every time. And I cut my sister's hair for picture day at school. That would not happen now!!!

How do you go from asking for a little bounce and ending up with a butch? LOL I have always had bangs except for my HS years. They wouldn't just hang straight either, they had to wave at everyone.

I didn't see you mention anything about the reunion? Did you go?

What bad timing for a bad cut! I think I'm guilty of giving myself the worst cut. I tend to start chopping on my hair when I'm stressed. Once a friend killed himself and I decided to cut my hair - real bad timing.

Oooh, I relate. My mum always cut my fringe crooked. And she'd send me off for a short boys style haircut if I lost all my hair clips, which I always did. So I am traumatised and have never had a short haircut since I started paying for them myself!

No running with scissors! and thanks for the warning. I was just contemplating asking for a little more height on top.

Thanks for playing today.

I love the big hair look! The butch look, not so much. Happy FM to you!

Two worsts: One: Neighbor (who claimed to own her own hair parlor) was drunk when she gave me a "weave" (highlights) and MELTED my hair!!! I mean, MELTED!!! I couldn't comb through it for WEEKS, and even then it was really mushy and weird and eventually just had to be cut off. Two: Had barber trim my bangs "so they will lay over my eyebrows when they are dry." I should have run when he looked puzzled at that request. My bangs were WAY shorter than half way up my forehead. Butchered ... not barbered.

I'm very much anti bad haircut.

I cut my son's hair and my husband's hair. They usually turn out pretty well, though occasionally it doesn't. My son won't go to a barber and my husband doesn't see why he should pay someone to cut his hair when I can run my fingers through his for free.

I hope my son doesn't have bad memories of his hair when he grows up!

Little brothers... they come up with some pretty bizarre things to say. One of mine used to drive everyone batty with "Gee-blithen!" Whatever the heck THAT meant...

The worst thing about a bad haircut is that they take even longer to grow out than a good one. Why is that you suppose?

Um-m-m-m ! I've not so convinced that there aren't any photos.

RE: Your comments at my place...you are totally out of control, and I love it.

Bad enough to get a bad cut that is too short to fix, worse yet to have it before a big event. My worse hair experience was when Z was 3 and wound a comb up the back of my mid back length hair up to my ears. I got it down to my neck before I had to cut it out, then went the next day with ponytail and asked for an emergency cut. T got a bad cut not long ago. He had grown his hair out and wanted it trimmed and decided to go to a different place. The old guy cut it like a girl's bob and blow dried it under. T wore a hoody tied up for 16 hours then I took him to the regular guy who said if he trimmed it, it would look like a shorter girl cut so gave him a short cut.
