Fun Monday - by the foot

Gattina, the wonderful author of Writers Cramps, has chosen our feet as the topic of today's Fun Monday. To be exact, she asks: Please show us what you wear on your feet inside your home ! Do you wear slippers, flip flops, shoes or nothing ? just take a picture and show us your feet !

Lucky for you, I'm not going to show you my freaky feet.

BUT, you do get to see my orthotics. I have to wear them because I suffer from over pronation.

What is that, you ask? What? You didn't ask? Well, here is the definition from foot dot com.

Over-pronation, or flat feet, is a common biomechanical problem that occurs in the walking process when a person's arch collapses upon weight bearing. This motion can cause extreme stress or inflammation on the plantar fascia, potentially causing severe discomfort and leading to other foot problems.

I wear these expensive puppies in every shoe I own. Therefore, I have to shop for well made, but conspicuously ugly shoes into which I can insert these supports. Or not, and experience horrible pain.

Some other members of my family share this problem, so it could be genetic. It may have been exacerbated by playing competitive racket ball for years.

My dancing days are over. No more spike heels. No sandals or flip flops.

I still get to play Fun Monday, though.

Kick off your shoes and enjoy the foot frenzy - all the links will be up at Writers Cramps!

That's the same with my Mr. Gattino's feet, he must have the same as you and fancy shoes are gone for ever. His slippers are very unsexy, lol !

Dawn and I both have orthotics. Ours are made of Teflon...or something like it. They have definitely helped my feet.

Thanks for leaving a comment, Pamela. When I go to a wedding, depending on the time of the year, I wear heels. Lovely platinum strappy jobbies in summer or elegant patent shoes in whatever colour I may be wearing to the wedding, maybe with a bit of bling on them.

My neighbour has to wear orthotics, too, otherwise her hips and her back ache something awful.

I've been wondering if I have a similar problem which might be contributing to my hip and knee problem. I notice some shoes affect me more than others.

Thanks for sharing, do you own many pairs of those inserts?

I am now trying to avoid wearing high heels when I can...bec, well, last year I had some pain in my soles...and I can see myself needing that thing soon if I don't take care of my feet now!

And yes, you still can play Fun Monday anyway... ;)

Thanks for sharing...

i wear those babies, too. for the opposite reason: i have such high arches, that my feet roll inward when i walk.

i don't wear mine every day or in every pair of shoes, and i know i should.

I don't wear orthotics (yet), but when I bought some running shoes a couple of weeks ago, I did have to change the insole to a higher arch one. Very strange-feeling on first wearing, but more comfortable as I wear them more.

...as you already know, I'm barefooted 99% of my day. My hubby's grandmother hated the fact, she once said "Anni probably would have been married barefooted if she knew she coulda gotten by with it".

Those actually look very supportive.

Thanks for visiting and leaving a comment today. Much obliged.

I know all about orthodics, my hubby needs them for his shoes also. they are very expensive. I l look for a shoe that has some arch support and no longer wear flat shoes when I know I will be doing a lot of walking. (sigh-old age) come over to visit me, my name didnt make the list. Thanks

My mom has the same problem. I think she has always been flat footed, but years of waitressing made it worse. She has to wear those expensive orthotics and ugly shoes and is not supposed to walk around barefoot even in the house.

I usually wear my SmartWool socks around the house. I'm wearing them now. I love my SmartWools and they are the best hiking socks ever.

I had a pediatrist one time that said I needed orthodics... we went through the whole schmeel of fitting and ordering and PAYING for them -- and they made my feet WORSE than without them! I was so mad... I don't remember what my problem was "diagnosed" -- but all I really needed was a few shots of cortizone and to work through it. I do have to be careful of my shoes though.

I wouldn't miss high heels at all! In fact, I can't even remember the last time I wore them! Nasty, tortuous things they are...

It would be rough for me to have to give up sandals, though. Living in Florida, sandals are a standard in everyone's closets!

My friend's 13yo son has to wear orthotics as well.

Well, a gal's gotta do what a gal's gotta do. Much better to be pain free, than a fashionista.

At first sight, I thought, "how does she keep those slippers on?" Then I read that they were inserts. Girls gotta do what a girls gotta do! You must take care of those feet.
I wear orthotics too for when I exercise...I get horrible shin splints!

My sister wears orthotics too and misses her barefoot days ... though because her feet get colder than mine, in the winter she always wore slippers. Thanks for visiting mine at Small Reflections ... Blogger sure has quirks sometimes.
Hugs and blessings,

I'm scheduled to get replacements for mine this month. I don't overpronate--personally I think it is just a way for my podiatrist to have another Colorado vacation. I guess they help, but I seem to have a lot of foot issues (none of which are helped by running long distances!). I used to wear tennis shoes when I taught--all different colors. Not very nice with skirts, I must say!

Oh gosh...I have the same problem. I wear orthotics in all my shoes too. I don't need 'em around the house yet (hence, my ongoing addiction to slipper socks). But I have to wear them for any extended standing or walking, and thus all my shoes have buckle or tie closures (no slip-ons). I can wear flipflops and heels for short periods of time, but "short" is key.

I have had good luck with Birkenstocks - their built-in arch support means that I don't need to wear the orthotics with them. But again, my walking/standing time is limited.

Great post, and happy FM to you!

So far, I haven't had any problems.

I think I am headed in your direction also. I suffer intense pain when I do too much walking also. Unfortunately my daughter has extremely flat feet also and we have already been told that she will have problems in the future.

Very interesting. I have really high arches, but when I try to support them the tops of my feet hurt, weird, huh.

I wear Crocs knockoffs in the house. They are lightweight rubber and have some arch support. I used to suffer from heel spurs but no more. We have no carpet and have cement/tile floors so indoor shoes is essential, even for some of our kids.

Well I'm glad there is something to help!

At home, I'm in socks.

OOooh, now I understand. I'm sorry.
At least those are comfortable huh?

HA! Hence the reason I chose to wear my bare feet! Shoes are totally over-rated!

I tried the cheap Dr. Scholls inserts for my tennis shoes and they worked well. I used to love going barefoot, but since I get severe aching in my heels, I wear a good padded shoe or slipper all the time.

I know your feet are supposed to hurt if they're flat, but mine have been totally flat all my life, and have never hurt. I guess I'm lucky, but I've still always longed for slim feet with arches! :)
