Congratulations Old Bikers

He had a goal: To ride the STP (Seattle to Portland) in one day after he turned 60. He did just that last Saturday.

There were 9 riders in his group. One was a 5 foot short woman - she's behind him in the photo above. The youngest was age forty something and the four oldest were 60.

They were on their bicycles by 5 a.m, and all but one had crossed the finish line by 9:30 pm.
Our daughter Amanda and our friend Kim (whose husband also rode) drove the sag vehicles and kept the riders fed and hydrated.

This is the 7th time my husband has completed the 200 mile classic. He and his group added another 3 or 4 miles when they chose to take their lunch break at a park off the route.

He said he's never felt better.

I thought his entry number was poignant. He does look like a 30 - 60. Don't you agree?

Wow. Congrats!
I drove that once--does that count? (And when I say drove, I mean I sat on a tour bus while someone else drove...)
Congratulations to him — I'm impressed! Don't believe I've ever ridden more than 50 miles in a day.

I'm impressed!!

Even though I actually came over here looking for photos of your birthday male stripper.
I am sorry but I must cast a negative vote on the feat. It is only considered riding if you have at least 1300 cc's under your butt. THEN I would consider taking the trip. Actually it is quite an accomplishment and congrats are in order.

Your husband looks healthy and in good shape. I probably would be, too, if I rode a bicycle as many miles as he has. Congratulations to him.

Pamela, that is SO impressive. He sounds like he makes great strides to remain healthy. And when I look at that photo, I DON'T think 60.

You lucky woman!

How cool is this!!! Congratulations ;--)
Reminds me of a few lengthy (and/or exciting) bicycle rides of my own … one I shared recently at Small Reflections as Slice of Life (from Orange County to San Diego, about 100 miles) and a few I’ve not written of (one in Alaska and the other down Haleakala on Maui) that I’ll add to my topic list for some day.
Hugs and blessings,

What a tremendous accomplishment, from one biker's wife to another. The most Bob has done is a 'century', that was 9 years ago, when he was 59.

I hope I can perform such feats many years from now.

Well, that is a great goal to attain. Now I have to hone up my skills to do such a trip. And I was feeling good about going 30 km a few times a week. The most I have done in a day is 136 km which is about half the distance those people went. I don't know if I could do it with a lot more training even. Wowsa.
