Fun Monday #41: Mother May I?

Hootin' Annie is the host of todays Fun Monday. She asked that we take 30 giant steps in any direction and take a photo. She directed us to take a photo and write a short essay. Then take 15 baby steps back and repeat the process.
Mother May I?
I took my giant steps East from my work station, through the patio doors and almost to the east side fence. This is where I arrived.
The bird feeder that the hubby built for me some years ago stands between a Blue Spruce and a Lace leaf Maple. I no longer rush out the patio door and clap my hands to chase the squirrels away. I surrendered seasons ago. Now I fill it with peanuts for the little tail swisher. For the birds I hang tubes of sunflower seeds and thistle. Occasionally a Crow or Magpie challenges the squirrel. I enjoy the rare visit of a shimmering Stellar Jay.

Fifteen baby steps back brings me to a Christmas gift I received from my "baby" several years ago. Amanda (aka Mandy), my youngest daughter chose this bird bath that is also a sun dial. This bath is favored by the finches because they can sit on the sun dial and ruffles their feathers before flying away. I've seen 10 of them vying for position at one time.

This is a zoom in on the sun dial sculpture. It has a teeny hummingbird that balances on a flower sculpture. Early in the summer mornings I have to hunt for the little piece after a raccoon or possum knocks it down. Yes... I did notice that I need to clean it out.

(PS. I have a tiny heater that is made for bird baths to prevent ice and to promote spoiled birds.)

Beautiful colours in the maple at this time of the year. Your sundial sculpture is very pretty and what a good idea to have a heater to prevent ice (something else I've learned~ would never have thought of this)

I've just come from Karmyn so all I can say is like mother like daughter.

Your trees are so pretty. What do you treat them with to get them to turn those bizarre colors?

WHERE do you get a birdbath with a heater?...I NEED one.

Lovely fall colors Pamela.
Some sort of weird/cool perspective thing was going on for me with that first picture... couldn't decide until I read on if it was a bird house or a tree house. Kinda neat, really.

What a nice bird bath !!

If you want to read a hilarious story of the adventure we had yesterday in Egypt read my post tomorrow ! I only say one word : call boys !

Your birds are as spoiled as my daughter's horse! After hacking through the ice several times last year, she invested in a submersible heater for the water tank. Great invention!

How beautiful. You have such spoilt birds. I enjoy the visits of the squirrels as well, and we have deer that come and eat the birdseed from the ground after the birds have made a mess.

I love your sundial. We had four raccoons last night eating my cat's food outside on the porch. Those little rascals. I'm trying to get a picture of them. One was soooo large and he just looked at me until I went for the camera.

The bird bath looks good in that spot.

Well, now I've heard of everything! Those birds ARE spoiled, for goodness sakes! Plus, they get a beautiful "show" of your trees--spectacular colors :).

Your squirrel/bird feeder is almost yard art--love it!

Maybe I need to stop clapping my hands and yelling shoo at the squirrels. They are here to stay!!

Your bird bath is perfect. And, I'd love to move into your birdhouse with that kind of a view.

Beautiful pictures! And, I love the little house that your husband made. And, your birds must really appreciate WARM water! I've never heard of a tiny heater for them....

Did you identify the trees, just for me? I love the maple! Of course, I will be insuring and chaining myself to my trees in the future, lest there be any more tree thieves in my area! I'm still pissed!

Love that birdbath!

I don't care for squirrels either. Unfortunately, I'm overrun with them at my house.

Just visited the other bird houser and as I commented there, I have to get one. We get so many birds flying around here and I'd really like to encourage them to stay a while. :-)

You are going to laugh and think I am a bit dim witted, but I only just figured out what a HOP YARD HOBO IS. They pick HOPS. I thought possibly they hopped from field to field, wherever the work was ... but the fact that they were picking hops kind of escaped my notice until today!
Excellent enjoyable story telling.
I do love your writing! I just can't ever get enough of it.
And what great bird features. The heater for the birds' water? Awesome! The other little woodland animals probably hot tub out there at night, too. I envy you your squirrels. A neighbor seven down and across has several. You'd think they'd share. I guess their giant pine tree has more appeal than my shrubs and palm trees do. Time to re-plant. ha.

A heated bird bath? There must be a line to get in there during colder months!

You have some lovely scenery to look out upon. Both items are treasures that you can enjoy over and over every day. Thank you for sharing.

Take care,

We have surrendered to the squirrels. Maybe this year we will add some tubes to our feeding stations. I like the way you have positoned your sundial birdbath by the trellis. Maybe we will try that as well. We received a sundial as a gift and have yet to find the perfect spot in our yard for the sundial. (I always can learn from you, Pamela.)

I love the fact that you have a heater for bird baths!

Here in Oz, it's almost summer.

Great concept by Hootin Annie, whose site I've visited a few times. Must sign up for this.

Too late this week - it's already Wednesday afternoon here in Oz!
fabulous autumn colors! what fun you have bird and squirrel watching!

Nice pictures. I like that you've given up on the chasing the squirrels. I never reached that level of zen becaues the feckers kept eating my daffodil bulbs.
