Dream Girls

No. Not the Movie.

Me and my two sisters. A trip to the ocean.

We're going to meet at a lodge right on the beach where you can watch the waves roll in, the seals frolicking in the surf, and the the local kite enthusiasts digging in for the strong Pacific Ocean breezes.

This weekend is long over due.

I remember our very first sister weekend was scheduled when our fourth sister was still alive. Nelda called at the last moment and begged off because she had a sore throat. She never recovered. The diagnosis was an acute form of leukemia and she was gone before any of us could say goodbye.

My sister Sandra is someone that Swampwitch would call her SOS or Sister of Survival. She beat breast cancer. Because of her fight I signed up and was accepted into a breast cancer research study coined the Sisters Study. I have given my blood, my urine, my vital statistics, and of all things, the dust in my house to be monitored over a period of years. "The Sister Study is the only long-term study of women aged 35 to 74 whose sister had breast cancer."

So, in the morning I'm going to drive six hours in order to smell the ocean.

While there, Sandra, Trish and I will spend a few days just being sisters. We're going to walk on the sand and check out the tidal pools. We'll probably go out for dinner and then talk late into the night. The sounds of the tide coming in will finally lull us to sleep and then wake us early with the sea birds calling for their breakfast.

I'm taking my bird book, my camera, my binoculars, and my blanket.

See you next week!

Wow, that sounds wonderful. I'm jealous. Right now I could go for a sea-side holiday myself. Have a spectacular time and I'm looking forward to the pictures and stories when you return!

Several years ago my mom and dad vacationed in Oregon, traveling up and down the coast. Of course they loved it, my mom especially fell in love with the sea there.

While there, she told my dad she was going to bring me and my sister back there the next year for just a girls trip - and she did!! Just my mom, me and my sister (leaving all husbands and children at home) flew to Portland, we rented a car, drove directly to Newport, Oregon and we were beached!! It was absolutely the grandest time I think I have ever had - top 3 anyway for sure! We laughed and laughed and giggled and cavorted like nobody's business. EVERYONE should have a trip like that! I am so excited for you and I KNOW you will have a fabulous time and build precious memories that will last a lifetime and a half. Yay for trips and triple yay for family!!!

take care:)

Sounds like so much fun! I wish I had a sister (or two) to do things like this with, and I pray my girls will grow up to be as close as they are now and can enjoy things like this together. Have fun!

I'm green with envy, or maybe it was that funky smelling meat from the fridge last night, anyway I'm jealous. Not of you frolicking on the beach, but that you are doing it with siblings you can stand to be with

Can't wait to see pictures....I think it is wonderful for sisters to get away together for a few days....my girls and I always go every summer on a girls weekend.... we go antiquing, shopping and of course we eat, and eat....and do alot of laughing.... My sister in law always joins us too, because she is my age, and I'm an only child so she is my sissy......lol I hope you have a great time.....

Oh, how wonderful! I hope you all have a wonderful time - I've heard that there is no bond like sisterhood, and since I don't know from experience, I'll trust whoever said that ;)

Can't wait to see some pictures!

Have a great time with your sisters!

BTW my little one who is four loves birds too. For Christmas she asked for a bird spy kit (binoculars) so she could spy on the birds from her window.
